It able to used on F150 04-08 years, but had to use the original plastic housing of the stepper motor of yours. To use it, you should separate the new stepper motor plastic housing and transfer the internal coil motors and gears into the original plastic housing. The reason is that the solder "prongs" and the pointer shaft were on the opposite side of the housing from the original.

 

Symptom:

Typically when a stepper motor is bad the gauge needle will stick or lag, however it is possible that a sending unit on the vehicle can be faulty giving a false indication.
